Late Bloomer Solo Show at Chandler House, Cape Town
Late Bloomer’s visual optimism and innocence of style hide an interest in both the beauty and ambiguity of nature. Daffodils, traditionally representative of new beginnings, cohabit with weeds, invasive species, poisonous flowers and idyllically soft landscapes of poisonous leaves. Flowers that grow in harsh almost uninhabitable arctic extremes, or grow rampant and uncontrolled, enjoy pride of place with buttercups, daisies, Forget-Me-Nots and orange blossoms to form dream-like, botanically impossible landscapes.
Late Bloomer was created in 4 months, with inspiration drawn from poetry and song-lyrics, and explores themes of love, loss, belonging and bitter-sweet pleasure.
